The Illinois State Police will be handing out tickets for driving under the influence while Tollway oases vendors will hand out free coffee on New Years Eve.
McDonald’s, Starbucks and ExxonMobil is offering a free cup of coffee on New Year’s Eve from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. at the oases locations along I-90, the Trii-State Tollway and I-88.
Meanwhile, Illinois State Police Dist. 15 will be out in force patrolling the Tollway system throughout the holidays, with additional Alcohol Concentration Enforcement details scheduled on New Year’s Eve.
Troopers will conduct several roadside safety checks and special enforcement details concentrating on distracted drivers, including cell phone use and texting while driving. Additional weather-related patrols are planned, as needed.
Additionally, troopers will focus on speeding, seat belt compliance, DUI, traveling too close and improper lane usage during the holiday.
All temporary construction and maintenance lane closures will be suspended from noon on Thursday, Dec. 30, through 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.
