School district U-46 announced Monday that five elementary schools received academic excellence awards from the state of Illinois for high academic performance.

Four out of the five schools are in Bartlett and include Bartlett Elementary, Centennial Elementary, Hawk Hollow Elementary and Prairieview Elementary. Spring Trail Elementary in Carol Stream also was honored.

Schools are recognized if at least 90 percent of its students meet or exceed state standards in reading and math for three or more consecutive years, district officials said.

“Attaining a 90 percent or higher passing rate is no small feat for any school and we are pleased that five out of the 459 schools being recognized for academic excellence are in school district U-46,” said Superintendent Jose Torres.

Bartlett Elementary has been recognized for the second straight year and received a 94 percent composite score this year as did Centennial Elementary.

Centennial has remained consistently above the 90 percent mark over the last three years with scores of 93 percent in both 2008 and 2009.

Hawk Hollow and Prairieview have seen improvement since 2008 when they were first recognized. Both schools were also honored in 2009.

This is the first year Spring Trail Elementary received academic excellence, district officials said.
