The Bartlett Plan Commission has given a thumbs up to rezoning 138 acres of Villa Olivia property to open space upon annexation to the village.
Last week, the Bartlett Park District successfully pushed through an $18 million referendum to renovate the aquatic center and purchase Villa Olivia.
During Thursday night’s public hearing, residents praised the efforts to preserve the acreage as open space.
“I’m really pleased to see the situation go the way it’s going,” said resident Joe Fink. “It’ll be a wonderful asset to the village of Bartlett.”
“Rezoning this back to public land and annexing it back to Bartlett is one of the best things we can do,” added resident David Cheatham. “A lot of people want to live in a place where they can have open land. (The decision to rezone to open space) tells people Bartlett is a place to come and live in the future because we’re concerned about the health and economic stability of Bartlett.”
