DuPage County, IL -

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Department will test suspicious or questionable Halloween treats beginning at noon Saturday, Oct. 31, as part of a special initiative to make the holiday safer for trick-or-treaters, the department  announced.

Anyone living in DuPage County who thinks a treat may have been tampered with, or appears suspicious, should contact their local police agency. For those who live in unincorporated DuPage County, the Sheriff’s Department will send a deputy to collect the questionable treat.

Treats collected will be taken to the department’s crime lab, where initial testing will be done. If the treat is determined to have a high likelihood of contamination, further testing will be done to confirm the results.

All treats submitted will be kept, and will not be returned, according to a release issued by the Sheriff’s Department.

The program will continue through 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2.

Those living in incorporated areas who want to use the program should contact their local police agency. Those living in unincorporated DuPage County should call the Sheriff’s Office at (630) 407-2400.

All those submitting treats for testing will be notified of results.
