The grand opening last month of Bricks Wood Fired Pizza and Cafe couldn’t come soon enough for pizza-lovers and fans.
“During construction, we’d have customers banging on the door and windows, asking if we were open yet,” owner Bill Wilson said.
After moving just down the street on St. Charles Road from the original location, the new Bricks is almost four times the size of its predecessor. Wilson said he could feel the customers’ frustration when there were no seats available at the old Bricks.
“Business has been double what it used to be,” said Wilson, who wasn’t worried about moving to the center of downtown Lombard where businesses seem to come and go in today’s economy. “It’s been a great experience.”
New menu items
While the location opened Jan. 18 might be brand new, Bricks added just a couple of new items to their menu such as bruschetta and the chocolate Nutella panini. Never before featured on the menu is beer and wine. Don’t worry — if something’s no longer on the menu, the kitchen will still make it for you.
Word of mouth
Featured in Chicago Magazine and on the TV show 190 North, Bricks has brought in people from all over. Since the first day of business four years ago, Bricks has done no advertising of its own. “If you build it, they will come,” is the mentality Wilson said he’s used to run his business since the start. He said he’s grateful to customers for being so loyal and spreading the word about Bricks.

It took about eight weeks to reconstruct the new location and move from the old spot. Still on the to-do list is to install new lighting fixtures, hang pictures on the wall and do some sound-proofing work. Bricks will be opening another location in Geneva in June.
