A Bensenville man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted recently of his ninth drunken driving offense, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office announced today.
Taurino Maldonado, 42, of 6001 Agye St., was convicted last month of aggravated drving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a May 6, 2007 arrest.
DuPage County Judge Kathryn Creswell presided over the two-day jury trail April 1 and 2.
According to police reports, Maldonado was charged after a Bensenville officer saw his car strike a curb and veer into oncoming traffic.
While he initially was charged with misdeamenor DUI and released after the arrest, a review of Maldonado's driving record revealed eight previous drunken driving convictions, including six in California.
State's Attorney Joe Birkett authorized upgrading the charge to felony aggravated DUI after reviewing Maldonado's driving record, he said in a statement.
