Roundup: Lyons boys basketball wins its Thanksgiving tournament

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lyons

Grant Niego scored 22 points and Stefan Vasic added 21 for the Lions in a season-opening 59-43 win over Plainfield North on Nov. 25. Niego scored 18 point in a 51-40 win over Fenger. The Lions improved to 3-0 with a 61-41 win over Maine South to win the Lyons Thanksgiving Tournament.

Morton

Kendell Nichols scored 27 points and Manuel Rodriguez added 18 for the Mustangs in a 71-70 loss to St. Rita in the championship game of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic.

Hinsdale South

Billy Durkin scored 15 points and Bobby Durkin and Daeshawn Amy each scored 10 to lead the Hornets past Naperville Central 47-40 to win the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament. Amy scored 20 points and hit six 3-pointers in a 71-20 win over Ridgewood. Aaron Tims scored 10 points and Amy and Bobby Durkin each had nine in a 46-29 win over Highland Park. Tims scored 13 points and James Ruzicka and Billy Durkin each had 12 in a 56-37 win over King.

Riverside-Brookfield

Paul Zilinskas scored 20 points and Dylan Mehan added 15, and the Bulldogs overcame a five-point halftime deficit to beat Kenwood 57-49 on Nov. 30 for third place at the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic. Jamir Truman added nine points and nine rebounds.

Zilinskas had 25 points and hit five 3-pointers in an 88-79 win over Oak Park-River Forest. Truman added 14 points and JP Hanley had 11.

Zilinskas had 16 points and nine rebounds and Nate Schoditsch 11 points and seven rebounds in a 61-55 loss to Morton. Zilinskas scored 21 points and hit five 3-pointers in an 80-31 win over Excel Academy.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nazareth

The Roadrunners improved to 4-1 with a 56-25 win over Crete-Monee. Nazareth previously beat Addison Trail 58-22 and St. Edward 60-38.

Hinsdale Central

Sarah Cernugel scored 15 points to lead the Red Devils past Timothy Christian 48-45.
