Eight Democratic Will County Board members have endorsed Nick Palmer in his run to be the next county executive.

Will County Board Speaker Denise Winfrey and members Jackie Traynere, D-Bolingbrook, Meta Mueller, D-Aurora, Amanda Koch, D-Frankfort, Beth Rice, D-Bolingbrook, Margaret Tyson, D-Bolingbrook, Herbert Brooks Jr., D-Joliet, and Mimi Cowan, D-Naperville, are all supporting Palmer, according to a news release.

“With Nick Palmer as county executive, we can continue to work together for the good of our community,” Winfrey said.

The County Board members praised Palmer’s experience in county government. He’s worked under current Will County Executive Larry Walsh Sr. for 15 years and serves as his chief of staff. Walsh already had endorsed Palmer when he announced his campaign in August.

“Nick’s experience means the transition to a new county executive will be seamless,” Koch said. “He knows nearly every issue, big and small, that the county faces.”

Koch said she could not think of anyone better to become the next county executive.

“I’ve been a board member for 11 years,” Traynere said. “Through it all, Nick has been a quiet leader, dedicated to making things better for all the people of Will County. He knows how to work across the aisle to get things done that really matter to the working women and men of this county.”

Palmer is facing state Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, in the Democratic primary. Bertino-Tarrant has served in the state legislature since being elected in 2012 and previously was Will County regional superintendent.

Republicans Nick Ficarello and Michael Messina also are running to become the next Will County executive.

The Illinois primary election is March 17.
