WILLOWBROOK – VET Service Dogs will partner with Petco Foundation to help celebrate Helping Heroes with service dog demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12, at the Petco at 6300 Kingery Highway in Willowbrook.

"Petco was generous enough to give us a grant," said Tiffany Boundas of Willowbrook, dog trainer for VET Service Dogs and corporate liaison.

The nonprofit VET Service Dogs was founded three years ago.

"We rescue dogs from shelters and give them a purpose," Boundas said of the Lyons-based organization's mission. "We give them free to a veteran suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and military sexual trauma. These highly trained dogs help [the] lives of their handlers."

Boundas said Saturday's event will introduce the nonprofit and feature demonstrations by three of the service dogs. She said the dogs are one way to help veterans acclimate back into civilian life.

The Petco store is at 63rd and Route 83. To learn more about the work of VET Service Dogs, visit www.vetservicedogsnfp.org.
