Mother kills two sons, sets house on fire in murder-suicide near Elmhurst

A mother shot and killed her two teenage sons July 12 before setting her house on fire and turning the gun on herself, according to DuPage County Sheriff's Office news release.

Jamie M. Jones, 43, shot her sons, Jason M. Harris, 16, and Nathan A. Harris, 19, with before starting the home located in unincorporated DuPage County near Elmhurst on fire. She then turned the gun on herself, the release stated.

What initially began as a fire investigation was later ruled a murder-suicide, the Sheriff's Office said.

This is truly a tragedy,” DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick said in the release. “An act like this is completely inconceivable. This will be a trying time for the family, the community and our first responders who dealt with the aftermath of this horrible incident. We offer sincere condolences for anyone affected and urge anyone who is going through stressful times in their lives to please seek help.”

Harris and two sons were found in a house following the fire. The blaze reportedly occurred at about 9:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Willow Road, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
