Morton has announced the hiring of Kristeen Anthonsen as its new girls basketball head coach.
Anthonsen is going into her fourth year teaching mathematics at Morton East. Prior to her elevation to head coach, Anthonsen served three years as assistant coach under Joe Maietta. Maietta left to pursue other opportunities after guiding the Mustangs for seven seasons.
“I could not be more excited," Anthonsen said. "I look forward to guiding the program and bringing a new energy to the basketball community. I cannot wait to continue to develop and challenge the female student-athletes of Morton."
Anthonsen was a four-year varsity player at Argo, then went on to play club basketball at Ithe University of llinois, where she graduated with her degree in education. In addition to basketball, Anthonsen is the assistant girls volleyball coach for Morton and has had experience coaching in the AAU realm.
“We are excited having Kristeen Anthonsen become head coach of the girls basketball program,” Morton athletic director Nicole Ebsen said. “She’s obviously already familiar with our program and athletes. It means a lot to the girls to have the continuity. Since being hired coach Anthonsen has hit the ground running. Kids are working hard to get ready for the season."
