Montini Catholic High School seniors Olivia Herrmann and Marissa VanDeVeer recently received the school’s Mother Teresa Campus Ministry Award for 2019.
The award recognizes graduating seniors who stand out as examples in community service and leadership throughout their high school years.
Herrmann, a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Lombard, was a member of Montini’s newly created peer ministry team, which is a faith-based ministry made up of student leaders. Their sole mission is to inspire and motivate by example and to encourage other students to engage in faith-based activities at the school and in their communities.
During her senior year, Herrmann also was president of Montini’s Lasallian Youth, a student ambassador representing Montini to prospective Broncos, as well as a service and co-tutoring chair of the St. Pope Paul VI chapter of the National Honor Society.
She also was the 2019 valedictorian.
Herrmann also was vice president of Spanish Club, vice president of Mu Alpha Theta and a member of Montini’s math team.
VanDeVeer also was a member of Montini’s peer ministry team.
“I joined to bring a stronger faith life to Montini,” VanDeVeer said. “I want this school community to be one where everyone can openly celebrate God’s love and appreciation toward Him.”
During her senior year, VanDeVeer was treasurer of Montini’s Lasallian Youth Group, president of the school’s pro-life club, and a member of the Future Saints Club. She also served as a Kairos (senior retreat) leader.
She was president of the math team, president of Mu Alpha Theta (math honors society), vice president of the National Honors Society, PR/advertising manager of the Spanish Club and a member of the Spanish Honor Society.
VanDeVeer was co-salutatorian of the Class of 2019.
“My overall experience at Montini has inspired me,” VanDeVeer said. “My teachers have encouraged me to take on various leadership roles, which have allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone. This school has become my family, and faith is an aspect just as important.”
VanDeVeer is a graduate of St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School in Lemont.
