Police investigate suspicious incident in Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE - Downer Grove police are investigating a report of a suspicious incident that occurred April 4 while a 13-year-old girl was walking home from school near Palmer Street and Saratoga Avenue, according to a police department news release.

The driver of a small black sedan asked the girl if she needed an umbrella. The girl refused the umbrella. The driver never exited his car and left the area traveling eastbound on Palmer Street, the release stated.

The driver was described as a white man with dark hair and a short, dark beard. He was approximately 40 years old, the release stated.

Police patrols have been increased in the area, and would like to remind parents to review stranger danger practices with their children.  Children should be instructed to run to a familiar house or to school and get help immediately when approached by a stranger. The police should then be called as soon as possible.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Downers Grove Police Department at 630-434-5600.
