Downers Grove North junior Brad Rosen, a 126-pound junior, was the lone athlete among the four public high schools to make the state cut.
Rosen finished third in the sectional.
“Brad Rosen is a warrior,” McGrath said. “There is no other way to describe it. He won four matches – and the combined score was 64-10.”
Montini, the defending Class 3A state champion, paced all programs with the most state qualifiers.
Dylan Ragusin and Dylan Burnoski won back-to-back sectional titles for Montini at 126 and 132 pounds.
Duplicating the five individual sectional champions that fellow Catholic League rival Marmion produced, Montini had Jake Stiles begin defense of his state championship with a 43rd consecutive win to start the season.
“He ran into a buzzsaw,” Batavia coach Scott Bayer said after 152-pounder Justin Major fell in the semifinals to Stiles. “[Stiles] is undefeated and nationally ranked.”
