The planners of the Bolingbrook Pride Picnic are seeking input from the community for the second annual event.
Organizers are asking community members what they would like to see at this year’s event and what would make them more likely to attend.
They also are asking for volunteers for two-hour shifts starting at 10 a.m. on the day of the event until 8 p.m.
The picnic is scheduled for June 9.
The group, Bolingbrook Pride, also is asking whether any community members are interested in becoming a member of the planning committee.
The first Bolingbrook Pride Picnic took place last year at the James S. Boan Woods and included animals, chalk art and LGBTQ-friendly story time at the Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook.
Organizers for the pride event in Bolingbrook and Mokena said they wanted to provide suburban residents the opportunity to celebrate LGBTQ pride and equality closer to home and not have to make their way to downtown Chicago. Bolingbrook Pride was started only last year to encourage acceptance of people with a variety of sexual orientations and gender identities within the village.
