Westchester Food Pantry seeks Thanksgiving donations

WESTCHESTER – The Westchester Food Pantry is preparing to give out 250 Thanksgiving dinners, and community members can help.

The pantry is seeking donations of frozen turkeys, canned yams, canned corn, canned green beans, cream of mushroom soup, French-fried onions, turkey gravy, canned pumpkin pie filling and canned apple pie filling, according to a pantry news release.

Current clients will receive the diinners Nov. 17.

To donate frozen turkeys, which should be 6 to 10 pounds, contact the pantry at WestchesterFoodPantry@gmail.com or 708-927-4826.

Nonperishable food items can be dropped off between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. at Westchester Village Hall, 10300 Roosevelt Road, or during regular business hours at the Westchester Park District Community Center, 10201 Bond St., and Mayfair Fitness Center, 10835 Wakefield Drive.

Thanksgiving dinners also can be sponsored for $20 each. Send donations to the Westchester Food Pantry, 10300 Roosevelt Road, Westchester, IL 60154.

The food pantry serves Berkeley, Bellwood, Broadview, Hillside, La Grange Park, Westchester and Western Springs, the release stated. Clients can come to the pantry once each calendar month to receive fresh produce and bakery products, frozen meats and shelf-stable food items. The pantry is a member agency of the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
