Led by Brenna Cohoon's record run, the Downers Grove South girls cross country team took second place at the 37-team First to the Finish Invitational on Sept. 8 at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The meet, won by Naperville North, featured six of the top seven teams from Illinois.
Naperville North scored 58 points, Downers Grove South second with 92 and Yorkville third with 93 points.
Cohoon, a junior, led the way for the Mustangs. Her time of 17:07 over three miles on the rain-soaked course bettered her own school record set at last year's state meet, and was good for fifth out of 309 runners. Melissa Weidner took 16th in 17:44, with Erin Reidy (18th, 17:50), Becky Versaskas (26, 17:59) and Kennedy Warden (27th, 18:02).
The Downers Grove South boys took 15th out of 47 schools at the First to the Finish Invitational.
Fishers placed first with 147 points followedby Lyons Township with 165 and Glenbard West with 171.
Senior Eddie Siuda led the Mustangs, placing 19th in 15:11. He was followed by George Willer (94th, 15:54), Canyon Stage (97th, 15:55), John Norris (133th, 16:15) and Stephen Nichols (134th, 16:15).
