ELMHURST – About 450 people came out for the Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network's fourth annual 'Cue for a Cause, which was Sept. 2 at the city of Elmhurst's parking lot at York and Vallette streets.
Brent Stewart of Holy Smokes BBQ was named the Grand Champion based on a combined score of ribs, chicken and sauce. Mayor Steve Morley was among the judges this year. Other activities at the event included face-painting, an inflatable slide and live music from bands such as School of Rock Elmhurst.
The Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network was able to raise about $22,000 through the event, Executive Director Jackie Crnkovich said in an email.
The network helps provide Elmhurst families and individuals in need with financial assistance to help with rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, car repairs, prescriptions, gas and more.
