'Spend, spend, spend'

Is the purpose of the Downers Grove library to lend out books to people or to raise taxes every year to forever have a yearly construction project going on? Every director that comes in finds more and new ways to spend, spend, spend.

Clean up after dogs

On the 600 block of South Hammerschmidt [Avenue], the very north end on the west side, right across from Hammerschmidt [Elementary] School [in Lombard], I was walking by the parkway, and there were at least a dozen fecal deposits from dogs or a dog. These are hazards in many ways. First, the kids in school will walk in this and bring it home or into school. Second, it's very unsanitary and causes diseases. And three, rats feed on pet fecal matter, and we don't want a rat problem in Lombard.

Real problem needs real solution

How many more children will be sexually abused by priests before the Roman Catholic Church comes up with a plan to correct the problem? Thus far, the church's main strategy has been to transfer pedophile priests to other areas and pay hush money to victims who successfully sue the church. However, the church rarely had had to admit guilt. The Joliet Diocese recently had to pay three victims $1.4 million for their suffering from sexual abuse when they were preteens back in 1977. That priest was moved around to several churches in the Chicago suburbs until they finally let him go back to the Philippines in 2004, where he died. Meanwhile, his victims turned to drugs and alcohol as a result of priestly predation. The problem is real. When will this church deal with it?
