ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Walk-In Assisistance Network’s fourth annual 'Cue for a Cause will present barbecue, music and family fun from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 2 at the city of Elmhurst's parking lot at York and Vallette streets.
Entry is free for the event, which centers around an amateur barbecue competition, according to an Elmhurst Walk-In Assisistance Network news release.
This year, 21 teams will compete to prove their ribs, chicken or sauce is the best, as determined by a panel of judges, the release stated. The team with the highest combined score in all three categories will be named the 2018 Grand Champions.
While members of the public won't get to sample the competitors’ food, they are able to taste the sauces and vote on their favorite, and Barbeque Jim’s will return to the event to yet again serve its award-winning barbecue to satisfy the cravings brought on by the smell of all that cooking meat, according to the release.
Beer and wine also will be on sale, and the root beer float and Italian ice booth will be on hand to satisfy sweet tooth cravings and keep event attendees cool, the release stated.
The School of Rock, Atomic Shadows, Elmhurst College Jazz Band and PettyCash will perform throughout the event, and children can enjoy a kids’ play area, which includes face-painting, an appearance by Wonder Woman and Spider-Man, a Lego building area and giant slide, according to the release.
There also will be a raffle and silent auction in which participants will have the chance to win tickets to sporting events and restaurant certificates, among other prizes, the release stated.
All proceeds from the event will be used by the Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network to serve Elmhurst families and individuals in need, according to the release. For more than 20 years, the network has worked to see people through tough circumstances by providing financial assistance to help with rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, car repairs, prescriptions, gas and more, the release stated.
