LA GRANGE – Another bat with rabies has been found in La Grange, according to an alert from the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control.
The bat was found Aug. 2 near the 200 block of North Kensington Avenue, the alert stated. It was determined to be rabid by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory.
A bat previously had been found June 27 near the zero to 100 block of Drexel Avenue.
La Grange residents are asked to keep their pets on a leash when they are outside the home, according to the alert. If pets do not have a current rabies vaccination, they need to be inoculated.
Residents should not handle any bats, skunks or other wild animals, the alert stated. If any bats or skunks are found down or dead on a property or roadway, the Department of Animal and Rabies Control should be notified at 708-974-6140.
