Consider sports facilities in Downers Grove, Westmont
The villages of Downers Grove and Westmont need to send a representative to check out the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center located [at] 55 Phelps Ave., Romeoville. It is a beautiful multi-sport facility. What a good idea to build a similar facility on the eyesore vacant properties on 63rd [Street] and Cass [Avenue] or 75th [Street] and Lemont Road.
Don't stereotype political parties
Civilized people don't make stereotypical comments about people because of race, sex, ethnicity or religion. So why do people think it's OK to offer stereotypes about people because of their politics? I know plenty of Republicans who value education. ... I know a number of Democrats who believe in the Second Amendment and think that people should be able to own as many guns as they want, including semi-automatic rifles. I know more pro-choice Republicans than pro-life Republicans, and I know more pro-life Democrats than pro-choice Democrats. The fact that a person is a Republican may have nothing to do with a pro-life stance... It may be about taxes and business regulation. By the same token, the fact that a person is a Democrat doesn't mean that he embraces abortion choice or feels that gun ownership should be severely restricted. He may just be a union worker worried that Illinois may be the next state to become a right-to-work state. Let's also remember that for every wealthy Republican, such as the Koch brothers or Donald Trump, there is a very wealthy Democrat, such as George Soros or Warren Buffet.
Curb repairs lead to parkway concerns
Many thanks to the Downers Grove streets department for the ongoing repair of curbs and streets in the El Sierra and Fairview Pointe neighborhoods, even when some were not needed. The only problem is that all curb replacements also included the sod being removed from parkways when many of these areas simply did not need the soil to be fixed. This careless work damaged underground sprinkler systems and related parkway tree areas. When questioned about the damage, the response was simply "too bad." I fully understand that the parkways belong to the city, but for the taxes paid and the work and expense to maintain these areas, the city should show a little more compassion for the homeowner.
See each other as equal
Hate and prejudice are the sentries of a fearful and inexperienced mind. Members of society lucky enough to be free of these barriers are charged with the responsibility to expose those fears to assist in overcoming and ultimately widening the gaze of all to see and appreciate every single person as an equal.
