Downers Grove police investigate hit-and-run of pedestrian

DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Police Department is investigating a July 24 hit-and-run that occurred near 39th Street and Fairview Avenue in Downers Grove, according to a news release.

The incident took place at about 8:15 a.m. when a 54-year-old man was struck by a pickup truck as he was crossing the street, the release stated.

Witnesses described the truck as medium-sized and black, with a full-sized tool box in the bed, according to the release. The driver of the truck allegedly left the scene without stopping to assist the pedestrian, the release stated.

The pedestrian was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

The driver was described as a bald white man between 50 and 60 years old. The truck was last seen traveling south on Fairview Avenue from 39th Street, the release stated.
