ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Garden Club showcased local gardening July 8 during the Elmhurst Garden Walk and Faire.
The more than 700 participants who attended the walk portion of the event could see five private gardens and the Marjorie Davis Community Garden Plots, a community garden of 52 plots, with displays ranging from intimate to extensive. Creeks and ponds, repurposed items and family keepsakes were features of this year's gardens.
The faire at Wilder Park drew about 1,000 people over the course of the day, event organizers said. The faire consisted of more than 60 vendors, who brought a variety of home and garden items such as glasswork, birdhouses, herbs and stepping stones.
The majority of proceeds from the event supported the Mildred Hartney College Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to Illinois students pursuing careers in horticulture-related fields. Proceeds also support local community horticultural endeavors, organizers said.
The event was sponsored in cooperation with the Elmhurst Park District.
