After being named the defensive MVP for Lyons last season for his play at cornerback, Dutton is being moved to the starting quarterback spot. He replaces highly touted three-year starter Ben Bryant.
A consensus three-star recruit, Bryant is now a freshman quarterback at Cincinnati.
Dutton said his background on defense will help his transition to replacing the strong-armed Bryant. Blaise Reichert is slated to be the backup quarterback.
“I think defense really helps me transition to quarterback because I know what cornerbacks are thinking and vice versa with quarterbacks on how they are thinking with cornerbacks,” Dutton said. “It really has helped me a ton, just to see different perspectives and what everybody is thinking on the field.”
Dutton is used to change in his football career. Two years ago, he played quarterback at Mount Carmel. He returned to the defensive side of the ball last season for the Lions. Since early last season, Dutton has been preparing to be Lyons’ starting quarterback for his senior year.
