LA GRANGE – The La Grange Art League is now sponsoring children and teens with free art classes and art camps with all supplies included.
Starts with Art is available to students at any elementary, middle or high school in the area, and teachers can nominate students online at lagrangeartleague.org/support.html throughout the school year.
Kathi Parisi, director of Starts with Art, was teaching an after-school art program at Cossitt Avenue School in La Grange when she worked with a talented student who was not able to take classes outside of school, according to a program news release.
Parisi realized there was a need to provide art classes for children of all socioeconomic levels, the release stated.
“This student inspired me to develop a program where all talented students would have the opportunity to take various classes and camps at La Grange Art League," she said in the release.
The La Grange Art League began its Send a Kid to Art campaign to raise money to offset the costs of class supplies. Through community donations, Starts with Art procured $865 for its budget, and local schools were contacted to help find students who displayed an interest and talent in art.
“We will strive to accept as many students as our funding will allow, and we hope to continue this program for many years to come," Parisi said in the release. "On behalf of the art league, I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the many private and business donors which made Starts with Art possible for all the children of our community."
Those interested in donating to the program can do so at lagrangeartleague.org/support.html.
