The revealing of the McCormick House coincides with two other exhibits: "Mies’s McCormick House Revealed: New Views" and "Untitled Film (Red)."
"New Views" includes three galleries. The first features historical drawings, photographs and models of the prefabricated home prototype built in Elmhurst. The gallery showcases Mies’ “dream home of tomorrow,” along with proposals for larger prefab developments in Chicago’s western suburbs. Prefab homes are manufactured off site before construction, typically in standard parts for easy shipping and assembly.
"I think the models are gorgeous," McKinnon said.
"New Views" includes loaned items from the Mies van der Rohe archive at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, including three drawings of the McCormick House that have never been exhibited.
The second gallery is “Glass Houses,” which displays models of iconic Mid-century homes from North and South America and places the McCormick House in that context.
The third contains photographs by artists responding to reflections and transparency on the glass walls designed by Mies.
