WHEATON – No one was injured in an extensive fire May 26 at an office building in Wheaton.
At about 8 p.m., the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1530 N. Main St., according to a news release from the city of Wheaton. Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke in the attic of a one-story office building, the release stated.
It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the fire, according to the release. The building was not occupied at the time of the fire, which did not cause any injuries, the release stated.
Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department, Wheaton Police Department and DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force conducted a fire investigation. While the exact cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, it was not suspicious in nature, according to the release. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
The Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene, and the Wheaton Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and other fire departments from neighboring communities, the release stated. The building was posted unsafe for occupancy and turned back over to the property owner, according to the release.
