Villa Park woman charged with DUI twice in one night in Elmhurst

ELMHURST – A Villa Park woman was charged twice with driving under the influence of alcohol May 18 in Elmhurst – in separate incidents.

Brenda S. Rivera, 28, of the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue, was charged at 1:39 a.m. May 18 with DUI of alcohol and improper lane use at North Avenue and Route 83.

The car Rivera was driving was towed, and she was released to another adult at 3:12 a.m. May 18 at the Elmhurst Police Department, 125 E. First St.

But, according to police records, her night was not over just yet.

Rivera, upon arriving home, allegedly took her brother's vehicle and was observed exhibiting "erratic" driving, including a violation of lane lines and speeding, Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Mike McLean said May 22.

The second vehicle also was towed, and Rivera was charged at 3:40 a.m. May 18 with DUI of alcohol, violation of bail bond, improper lane use and speeding at North and Myrtle avenues. She was transported to the DuPage County Jail and awaits a bond hearing.

"We do take drunk driving very seriously," McLean said.

Both DUI charges are misdemeanors, and the arresting officers were different individuals, he said.
