BB gun possibly involved in Churchville Middle School property damage

ELMHURST – Two exterior windows and an exterior glass door reportedly were damaged with a BB-type projectile between 3:40 p.m. Feb. 27 and 7:50 a.m. Feb. 28 at Churchville Middle School, 155 Victory Pkwy., Elmhurst, according to an Elmhurst Police Department report.

School officials called the police as soon as the windows were discovered, Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 spokeswoman Melea Smith said in an email March 3.

The incident remains under investigation, but police have no reason to believe students are involved, she said. Buildings and grounds staff repaired the damage, and children returned to the affected classroom the afternoon of Feb. 28, Smith said.

"[Churchville Principal] Gina [Pogue-Reeder] spoke to the staff about the incident at the earliest possible juncture and instructed them on what to say to students. This is now a police matter," she said.
