ELMHURST – All eastbound lanes of Interstate 290 are closed at St. Charles Road following a crash at 1:58 p.m. March 1 that resulted in a fatality, according to an Illinois State Police news release.
The Illinois State Police reported the crash involved three truck tractors and four cars, but according to the Elmhurst Fire Department, two semi-trucks and two passenger vehicles were involved in the incident.
Currently, all eastbound traffic is being diverted onto North Avenue, according to the Illinois State Police release.
At about 2 p.m., Elmhurst firefighters were called to the scene of the accident, which occurred at the 29-mile marker of the highway, according to an Elmhurst Fire Department news release.
In addition to one fatality, the crash caused one non-life-threatening injury, the release stated.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, according to the release.
