Elmhurst police officer fires gun after suspect charges with vehicle

ELMHURST – A suspect allegedly drove his vehicle in the direction of an Elmhurst police officer during a traffic stop Feb. 27 at York Road and Crestview Avenue, leading the officer to discharge a firearm, according to a city news release.

As the suspect fled from police, he allegedly crashed into another vehicle, the release stated. His vehicle was recovered in Chicago following a pursuit involving several police agencies, but the driver remains at large.

The officers involved were not injured in the incident, which occurred at 4:45 p.m., according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Elmhurst Police Department, DuPage Major Crimes Task Force and DuPage County State's Attorney’s Office, the release stated.
