Roundup: Montini, IC Catholic Prep wrestling win regional titles

WRESTLING

IC Catholic Prep

The Knights qualified all 12 wrestlers for sectionals and won the team title at the Class 1A Lisle Regional on Feb. 3. Joey Bianchini (138), Kyle Franklin (160) and Victor Vargas (195) won individual titles.

Montini

The Broncos easily won the team championship at the Class 3A Lyons Township Regional. Montini regional champions included Nain Vazquez (106), Dylan Ragusin (113), Joey Melendez (120), Dylan Burnoski (126), Real Woods (132), Fidel Mayora (138), Jake Stiles (145), Will Lewan (152), Matt Ortiz (160), Anthony Geraci (170) and Trevor Swier (182).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Timothy Christian

Jordyn Strube scored 16 points and Olivia Schuringa added 11 points for the Trojans in a 49-30 win over Collins in the Class 2A Timothy Christian Regional semifinal on Feb. 7. Hannah Schuringa added eight points and six rebounds for Timothy Christian, led 12-0 after a quarter and 20-2 at the half. The Trojans advanced to play Lisle on Feb. 9 in the regional final.

Emily DeBoer scored 20 points for the Trojans in a 64-55 win over Fenton on Feb. 1.

Montini

Aaliyah Patty scored 22 points and Lindsey Jarosinski added 18 for the Lady Broncos (28-2, 5-0 GCAC Red) in a 85-35 win over DeLaSalle on Feb. 7. Alena Anderson added 14.

York

Danielle Dennis scored 17 points and Matty Stark added nine for the Dukes in a 46-30 win over Oswego East on Feb. 3.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Timothy Christian

The Trojans ran their winning streak to 10 straight games with a 68-46 win over Elmwood Park on Feb. 6. Brandon Orange scored 23 points and Matt Owens had nine points, eight assists and five rebounds for Timothy Christian (19-4, 9-0 Metro Suburban).

Timothy Christian previously beat Walther Christian 64-54 on Feb. 2. Orange had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Michael Thomas added 11 points.

Willowbrook

Marshawn Phillips scored 15 points for the Warriors (19-5, 6-3) in a 69-63 loss at Hinsdale South on Feb. 2. Zion Griffin scored a career-high 39 points for Hinsdale South (16-5, 6-2)
