The Lemont boys swim team took second to Tinley Park at the South Suburban Blue Conference meet on Feb. 1 at Oak Forest.
The Indians, who set six new school records at the meet, were just edged by six-time defending champion Tinley Park 268-242 in the team standings.
Senior Owen Ganzer was part of two relays – the 200-yard medley and the 200 freestyle relay – that set new records. Ganzer also broke two of his own individual records in winning both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Also swimming on the record setting relay teams were Thomas Vileikis, Ray Scribano, Ethan Potts and Andres De La Vega. Freshman Joey Kibbon broke two of Ganzer’s previous records with his swims in the 200 freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Kibbon was first in the 200 freestle event with a time of 1:50.06 and second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.51.
Ganzer’s time in the 50 freestyle of 21.54 seconds was below the qualifying time for state. However to go to the state meet the time must be set at the sectional meet.
Lemont will be competing at the Carl Sandburg Sectional on Feb. 17.
