2 men charged in string of south Elmhurst burglaries

Fernando E. Galvan Jr., 20, of the 5100 block of West 23rd Street, Cicero, was charged in a series of burglaries Jan. 25 in south Elmhurst. Tyler Almaguer, 22, of the 2100 block of Melvina Avenue, Chicago, also was charged.

ELMHURST – Two men have been charged in a series of burglaries Jan. 25 in south Elmhurst.

Tyler Almaguer, 22, of the 2100 block of Melvina Avenue, Chicago, and Fernando E. Galvan Jr., 20, of the 5100 block of West 23rd Street, Cicero, were charged with burglary and taken into custody Jan. 26 by Elmhurst police detectives and then transported to the DuPage County Jail, according to an Elmhurst Police Department Facebook post.

An Elmhurst police officer on patrol reportedly discovered an open car door with the dome light on at 3 a.m. Jan. 25 in the 800 block of Saylor Avenue. Several unlocked cars and unlocked garages were entered between 2:30 and 4 a.m. Jan. 25 in the 900 and 1000 blocks of Saylor Avenue, the post stated. Change and other items of value reportedly were stolen, according to the post.

Video surveillance from the area assisted police in identifying the suspects, the post stated. Galvan is being held at the DuPage County Jail on a $2,000 bond, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. Galvan's next court date is Feb. 26. Almaguer was released at 11:11 p.m. Jan. 27, according to the Sheriff's Office.
