But the loss to Maine West, the largest margin of defeat during Kilbride's 112-15 tenure, is a wake-up call for Benet. If the Redwings play Maine West again, it would be in the state championship game.
“I think it starts in practice and we need to pick up our tempo so we’re ready in games and we [must] work hard,” Benet sophomore Ashley Berry said. “They’re a team we could meet Downstate, so we need to work hard in practice so that we’re ready for them next time.”
Berry, a reserve guard, was one of the few bright spots, coming off the bench to score five points in the first half to keep the game close. Her 3-pointer from the right wing pulled Benet within 22-19 in the second quarter, but the Warriors responded with a 15-3 run to take control.
