Roundup: Ferguson, O'Leary led Lemont to second place at Chuck Dayton Holiday Classic

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lemont

Nate Ferguson, Lemont's 6-foot-7 junior, averaged 21.3 points and 10.3 rebounds at DeKalb's Chuck Dayton Holiday Classic to lead the Indians to second place. Ferguson was joined on the all-tournament team by Paul O'Leary, Lemont's 6-9 senior who averaged 18.3 points per game.

Ferguson scored 14 points and O'Leary added 11 in Lemont's 48-44 loss to Naperville Cenral in the championship game Dec. 30. Jack Kramer added nine points for the Indians (9-5).

Ferguson scored 24 points and O'Leary added 17 in Lemont's 67-62 semifinal win over Mundelein Dec. 29. O'Leary poured in 29 points in Lemont's 61-56 win over South Elgin in the quarterfinals on Dec. 28. Ferguson had 27 points and 17 rebounds in Lemont's come-from-behind 61-55 win over CVS on Dec. 27.

Downers Grove South

Justin Eagins scored 30 points for the Mustangs in a 71-65 loss to Lyons Township in the consolation championship of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic on Dec. 30. Wesley Hooker added 12 for Downers Grove South.

Hinsdale South

Zion Griffin scored 15 points for the Hornets in a 46-35 loss to York on Dec. 29 at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.

Griffin scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and had a last-second halfcourt shot for the win rim out in overtime, in Hinsdale South's 52-51 quarterfinal loss on Dec. 28.

Downers Grove North

Semaj Henderson had 23 points and eight rebounds for the Trojans in a 70-52 loss to Bogan on Dec. 29 at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament. Trey Boston had 18 points for Downers Grove North in a 74-48 loss to Young on Dec. 28. Boston had 16 points and seven rebounds in a 43-33 win over St. Joseph on Dec. 27.

Westmont

The Sentinels (12-1) beat Christ the King 57-45 on Dec. 29 to finish third at the IC Catholic Prep/Westmont Holiday Tournament.

Hinsdale Central

Trevor Hamilton poured in 27 points, with a game-tying 3-pointer in regulation in the Red Devils' 70-63 overtime loss to Crete-Monee on Dec. 30 at the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. Matthew Guglielmo and Max Quast each added nine points for Hinsdale (3-8).

Benet

David Buh scored 13 points and Will Engels added 10 in Benet's 49-39 loss to St. Charles North on Dec. 30 at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lemont

Sara Knoepfle scored 17 points and Niamh Hehir added 11 points as the Indians beat Plainfield Central 53-47 for seventh place at the Oswego East Holiday Tournament. Hehir scored 15 points in Lemont's 63-44 loss to Lockport. Claudia Sikora scored 18 points and Hehir added 16 in Lemont's 80-61 loss to Lincoln-Way West. Hehir scored 13 in Lemont's 54-31 win over Catalyst Maria.

Downers Grove North

Julia Kramper scored 11 points and Jalyn Harris added 10 for the Trojans (7-10) in a 44-30 loss to Wheaton North in the third-place game of the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic on Dec. 29. Kramper scored 12 points in Downers Grove North's 36-26 loss to Glenbard South in the semifinals on Dec. 28.

Westmont

Westmont won its last two games at the Lisle Cage Classic, beating Illiana Christian 45-34 and Chicago Christian 42-39.

Benet

The Redwings (16-3) went 2-2 at the Montini Christmas Tournament, losing to Hersey 61-55 and Evanston 47-43 before beating St. Joseph 75-38 and Batavia 76-38.

Brooke Schramek scored 21 points against Hersey for Benet, which is still without point guard Tsimba Malonga (knee) but welcomed junior Ashley Konkle (torn ACL) back.
