Lyons Township takes consolation title at Tosh Classic

Tyrese Shines scored 21 points, leading Lyons Township past Downers Grove South 71-61 to win the consolation championship of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic on Dec. 30.

Josh Berry added 18 points and Nolan Niego had 13 points in the victory for LT.

Shines poured in 35 points, including a buzzer-beating layup in regulation, in LT’s 79-73 overtime win over Sandburg on Dec. 29. Berry added 17 points and Niego had 15.

Niego scored 22 points and Shines chipped in 14 in LT’s 58-46 win over Lake Forest on Dec. 28 at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.

Shines scored 23 points and Lazarius Williams added 12 in LT’s 61-60 overtime win over Oswego on Dec. 27.

Shines scored 16 points in LT’s 53-44 first-round loss to Palatine.


Patrick Siepman scored 19 points and Michael Adams added 12 for the Roadrunners in a 54-52 win over Oswego on Dec. 29 at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.

Adams scored 14 points for Nazareth in a 52-49 overtime loss to Providence at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.

Adams scored 19 points and Siepman added 11 in a 63-57 loss to Sandburg on Dec. 27.

Siepman scored nine points in a 45-31 loss to Batavia on Dec. 26.


Patrick Hanley had 18 points, four 3-pointers and six assists to pace the Bulldogs (7-7) to a 65-40 win over Rolling Meadows to wrap up the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Ryan Cicenas hit five 3-pointers for 15 points for R-B.

Cicenas scored 23 points and hit five 3-pointers to lead the Bulldogs past T.F. South 72-59 on Dec. 28 at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Hanley added 13 points, Zach Vaia 12 and Reginald Loury 10.

Cicenas had 12 points and Vaia and Hanley 10 apiece in a 67-56 loss to McHenry. Charles Terry and Jason Bageanis had 10 points apiece in a 46-45 first-round loss to St. Patrick.


DJ Steward, who got a scholarship offer from Northwestern last week, had 32 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead the Friars past Bogan 67-56 for fifth place at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament. Mike O’Laughlin added 10 points, four assists and four steals.

Steward scored 17 points and O’Laughlin and Damari Nixon had 10 points apiece in a 68-43 win over Larkin. O’Laughlin scored 13 points, Nixon 11 and Steward 10 in a 45-42 loss to Orr. Steward had 22 points and O’Laughlin 18 in an 82-50 win over Proviso West.



The Roadrunners (16-1) beat Marian Catholic 47-33 on Dec. 30 for fifth place at the Montini Christmas Tournament. Nazareth beat Marist 68-48 on Dec. 29, lost to Mother McAuley 59-55 on Dec. 28 and beat Batavia 67-37 on Dec. 27.

Lyons Township

The Lions lost to Evanston 38-35 on Dec. 30 at the Montini Christmas Tournament. Lily Courier scored 29 points and Sid Bugaeski added 17 for the Lions in a 64-60 win over Oak Park on Dec. 29 at Montini. Courier scored 19 points and Tessa Elliot added 16 in LT’s 51-44 win over Batavia on Dec 28.


The Friars beat New Trier 68-66 in double overtime at the Dundee-Crown Charger Classic.
