ELMHURST – The first York Community High School Alumni Association Board of Directors has been elected with a mission to serve and support the school and its alumni by fostering communication and camaraderie among alumni, maintaining a strong relationship between York and its alumni, preserving the history, traditions and memories of the school, and contributing to the growth and welfare of York and its students, according to a school news release.
The association is free to join and open to all who attended York. Benefits include participation in association events and receipt of a biannual electronic newsletter featuring alumni activities and York updates, the release stated.
The group came together on the heels of the successful York Distinguished Alumni Program, now in its fifth year, and the forthcoming centennial of York, which was established in 1918. The board and committee members represent classes ranging from 1958 to 2005. Much of the groundwork, such as a mission statement and governing documents, were put into place by the association committees, culminating in the election of the new board in May.
Board members serving two-year terms are President Jay Webb (’75), Vice President Kathy Wilson (‘65), Trish Harper (’62), Treasurer Linda Boeske Aldis (‘74) and Secretary Debbie Linhart (’67). Committee chairs are Mark Mulliner (’76), Kurt Fowich (’63), Sharon O’Brien (’76) and Kristen Yasz (’05).
Along with forming the alumni association, this group is assisting York Community High School in planning the York Centennial Celebration in 2018. Association meetings are at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the District 205 Administrative Center, 162 S. York St., Elmhurst. All York alumni are encouraged to attend.
