DOWNERS GROVE – A laptop computer and two watches with a combined value of $1,400 reportedly were stolen Dec. 19 from a house in the 4400 block of Stonewall Avenue in Downers Grove, according to a police report.
The incident occurred between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., but residents did not realize their house had been burglarized until a few hours after returning home when they discovered the master bedroom ransacked, police said.
Intruders appeared to have entered the house after forcing open the garage service door, the report stated.
All three second-floor bedrooms were ransacked. Dresser drawers were searched and left open or thrown on the floor. Several shoe boxes were opened and thrown on the floor, and a jewelry cabinet was searched, according to the report.
Credit cards belonging to one of the residents reportedly were used later in the day in Chicago, police said.
