An armed prowler was caught red-handed inside a Plainfield home he entered after apparently smashing a window with a brick, police said.
Officers surrounded a house in the 24200 block of Partridge Drive about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a man picking up a brick and walking around to the back of the home, police said.
After arriving at the Partridge Drive residence, the officers noticed a broken window and could hear someone inside the house, police said.
“After surrounding the residence, the officers gave verbal commands for the subject to exit the residence,” the Plainfield Police Department said in a news release. “The subject eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.”
Police identified the alleged housebreaker as Juan Morales, 33, of the 600 block of Alyce Lane in Aurora.
While searching Morales, officers discovered he was carrying two loaded firearms, extra ammunition and a knife, police said.
“Morales also possessed items that were later determined to be stolen from inside the residence,” the release said.
“Morales’ 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was located in the vicinity of the burglary,” the release said. “A search of the Jeep yielded another firearm, as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition.”
Morales was booked into the Will County jail. He was scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
