BROOKFIELD – Lights and the holidays have always gone hand in hand as people tour their neighborhoods or stroll through downtown Chicago to take in extravagant Christmas displays.
For more than three decades, Brookfield Zoo has gotten in on the act with the annual Holiday Magic festival. The zoo is transformed into a holiday wonderland as more than 1 million LED lights illuminate the grounds and thousands of families celebrate the season.
“This past weekend we had more than 50,000 people over two days,” said Sondra Katzen, the zoo’s director of public relations. “A lot of people make it a traditional visit. People seem to be in the holiday spirit.”
The 36th annual festival will continue at 4 p.m. Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17. Festivities then resume Dec. 26 through 31. The zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
