A Glen Ellyn man was killed in a four-vehicle crash that occurred at about 1:24 p.m. Nov. 30 at 22nd Street and Midwest Road in Oak Brook.
Chen Tien, 84, was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.
At about 1:24 p.m., the Oak Brook Police and Fire departments responded to a serious traffic crash with multiple injuries and possible entrapment at 22nd Street and Midwest Road, according to a news release from the Oak Brook Police Department. Upon arrival, officers found a red Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck resting on top of a Toyota Prius being driven by Tien, with a Ford Taurus driver’s side door caved in at the front of the pickup, the release stated.
According to eyewitness statements, the truck disregarded the red light at 22nd Street and Midwest Road and struck the two vehicles traveling west through the intersection as well as a Lexus SUV, the release stated.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, a 53-year-old man from Park Forest, was transported by paramedics to Good Samaritan Hospital, according to the release. The two occupants of the Ford Taurus, a 52-year-old woman and 57-year-old man from Chicago, were both transported to Good Samaritan Hospital as well, the release stated.
The fifth person in the crash, a 74-year-old man from Hinsdale, declined medical treatment.
Oak Brook police, along with the Felony Investigative Assistance Team's Major Crash Reconstruction Team, have been investigating the crash. Oak Brook police received assistance with traffic control from Illinois State Police and the Oakbrook Terrace, Hinsdale, Villa Park, Westchester and Lombard police departments, the release stated.
