DOWNERS GROVE – A teacher at Downers Grove North High School has been placed on administrative leave following accusations of sexual harassment.
The matter is under investigation by the Downers Grove Police Department, but no charges have been filed. The teacher hasn’t been in school for nearly two weeks.
The accusations were made by Jennifer Boudinot, a 1999 Downers Grove North graduate, who now lives in New York. During her time at the school, a teacher allegedly sexually harassed her and her friends, she said in a Nov. 20 Facebook post.
"Unfortunately, the assistant band director, who was also in charge of the auditorium crew technicians, used his position of power to take advantage of me and my classmates," Boudinot said. "As a lot of you know, last week I started an email address with a friend – DGNwatchwomen@gmail.com. We have received information about this teacher from women with graduation years spanning 16 years, with reports of him making lewd and suggestive comments all the way to sexual assault."
Superintendent Hank Thiele notified Community High School District 99 staff, students and families of the allegations in a Nov. 28 email.
"It was brought to our attention recently that conversations on social media pointed to potentially inappropriate behavior on the part of a current teacher at North High," Thiele said. "In response, we immediately began gathering facts surrounding the concerns and placed the teacher on administrative leave. Since then, the Downers Grove Police Department has opened an investigation."
