Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry elects committee members

ELMHURST – A nominating committee slate of six candidates were elected to three-year terms as members of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board of Directors at the board’s Nov. 21 meeting at the Community Bank of Elmhurst, 330 W. Butterfield Road.

Sean Daly, vice president at Suburban Bank and Trust; Shazad Mehta, manager at Mehta Motors; Mike Muisenga, real estate consultant at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Prairie Path, REALTORS; and Susan Tyburski, executive director of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation at Edward-Elmhurst Health were elected as first-time directors.

Mike Hauert, partner and attorney-at-law at Hauert Law Office, and Bill Korbel, local sales manager at Suburban Life Media, were re-elected to second terms as directors.

Joe Muchow, president of E.L. Foust Co., since 1997, installed Daly, Hauert, Korbel and Tyburski in performing his next to last duty as 2017 board chairman. Mehta and Muisenga will be installed by the new board Chairman Ken Bartels, senior vice president at Community Bank of Elmhurst, at the board’s Dec. 12 meeting.

All of the elected directors were slated by a nonboard nominating committee. This year’s slate ran uncontested, with no chamber member filing the required petition to run for election.

The nominating committee was comprised of the following five past board chairpersons: Dee Longfellow (2015) of The Elmhurst Independent, Jennifer Speaker (2012) of SMB Advantage Group, Scott Levin (2010) of Howard & Howard, Cathy Bajkowski (2003) of CB Health Insurance and Rich Reichert (2001) of Community Bank of Elmhurst.

The board is comprised of 18 elected directors serving three-year terms, plus three ex-officio directors and an annually appointed treasurer. Elected directors are limited to serving two consecutive terms, not counting years as an appointee filling a vacancy or as a post-term past chairperson.

The chamber also elected three officers and one appointment for its six-member executive committee for 2018 at that meeting.

Elected to serve one-year terms on the Executive Committee were Ken Bartels, senior vice president at Community Bank of Elmhurst, as chairman; Kevin Kost, financial adviser with Edward Jones Investments, as first vice chairman; and Lori Murray, vice president, branch sales and customer service, at Inland Bank, as second vice chairman.

Ralph Pechanio, chair of the city of Elmhurst’s Veterans Memorial Commission, former community banker and longtime chamber volunteer, was appointed to serve a one-year term on the Executive Committee as treasurer.

Bartels, Kost, Murray and Pechanio will be joined on the Executive Committee by immediate past Chair Joe Muchow, president at E.L. Foust Co., and ex-officio member John Quigley, chamber president and CEO since 1999.

Bartels will work closely with chamber staff and oversee the policy making work of the chamber board and its four standing committees – marketing, membership, ways and means and governmental affairs – as well as special committees and task forces — including the Centennial Celebration Committee planning for the chamber’s 100th anniversary in 2018.

Kost, Murray and Pechanio will serve as chairpersons of the marketing, membership and ways and means committees, respectively, while Quigley chairs the governmental affairs committee.
