GLEN ELLYN – The Glen Ellyn Library Foundation's Jungle Book Ball on Nov. 4 raised more than $40,000 for the library's $1.7 million renovation project.

The project, which will begin in January 2018, will create a new entrance and lobby area, consolidate the circulation department's work space, reconfigure the large public meeting rooms, update the public restrooms and add a drive-up window for checking out library materials, along with a cafe.

“The ball far exceeded my expectations,” Glen Ellyn Public Library Director Dawn Bussey said in a news release from the library. “It was amazing to see a cross-section of Glen Ellyn residents come together to support the library, from all different ages and all different walks-of-life.”

During the ball, guests mingled while enjoying food and cocktails. They also were treated to a special Jungle Book virtual reality experience and jungle-themed mini-golf hole. But the live and silent auctions were the main attraction, according to the release, with items ranging from pieces of jewelry to tickets to a Cubs game to vacation packages available for bidding.

“The ball created a lot of good will in the community,” Bussey said in the release. “At the end of the night, guests walked away with some unique items and experiences, smiling and talking about the wonderful evening. We couldn't have asked for a better night."
