The Illumination display also is a way for Morton Arboretum officials to educate people about the arboretum and what it does.
"People are used to seeing the trees when they're flowering in the spring or in full green in the summer or, of course, fall colors," Sargent said. "But people don't think of trees in the winter, and this was a way to make a special experience and celebrate trees in the winter, so that was really the inspiration five years ago."
