DOWNERS GROVE – A Downers Grove house reportedly was burglarized Nov. 3 or 4 while the owners celebrated their daughter’s wedding, police said.
The burglary occurred between 2:30 p.m. Nov. 3 and 12:59 a.m. Nov. 4 in the 6400 block of Davane Court, according to a police report. The bride’s family and wedding party left the house at about 2:30 p.m. to attend the ceremony and reception.
Thieves took a laptop computer and case, silver coins, a $100 gift card, Cubs jersey, wedding band, pearl necklace and matching earrings, and an 18-karat gold cross and necklace, police said. A credit card and cash also were reportedly stolen.
Offenders reportedly entered the house after prying open the back door, according to the report. A latched gate leading to the deck also was tampered with. The entire house was ransacked, and the lights were left on.
Papers in the home office were thrown on the floor, but nothing appeared to be taken, police said. Drawers in the master bedroom containing jewelry and clothing were dumped out and searched.
A television was tampered with but left behind, as was a ceiling-mounted projector, according to the report. Some cash, credit cards, electronics and collectible dolls also were left behind.
Some of the bride’s wedding gift boxes were opened, but the family was unsure if anything was taken, police said.
