A controlled burn will take place in the naturalized storm water detention area just south of Brassfield Avenue in Romeoville.

The burn, which will be conducted by V3 Companies on behalf of the village of Romeoville, is scheduled for sometime between this month and mid-May. The exact date will be dependent on proper weather conditions.

A controlled burn is a standard technique used periodically by land managers, including the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Will County Forest Preserve. The purpose of the procedure is to improve the health of the ecosystem by releasing nutrients into the soil and ridding the area of invasive plant species.

This burn is part of the village’s ecological management plan.

The V3 staff is experienced with prescribed fire and trained in wildland firefighting. The Romeoville Fire Department has approved the procedure and will be contacted the day of the burn upon ignition and again once it is extinguished.

People needing special accommodations because of medical issues brought on by smoke, or those who would like to be contacted on the day of the burn are asked to call project manager Keith Jones at 630-729-6207.
