Joyce Blair, a resident of the Deer Creek subdivision, said she was aggravated by the ongoing flooding.
“Any time there’s any kind of rain, it floods,” Blair said. “It’s very disheartening when your street is flooded, and the creek overflows the banks, and Fairview Avenue is closed, and 55th Street is closed.”
The retention basin behind Blair's house dissects the Deer Creek subdivision and the Villas of Deer Creek subdivision in Westmont.
“We’re getting water in our basements,” Blair said.
Gail Tatterson, of the 1200 block of Gilbert Avenue, said stormwater has been a problem in Downers Grove for many years.
“We have to stop talking about remediation, and we have to talk about what’s causing it,” Tatterson said. “It’s the ultimate problem in Downers Grove – water. People’s quality of life is being decreased.”
